Wind Energy Graphs And Charts

Personally I believe the future in renewables is in production at the point of consumption (solar pannels on roofs or using new solar technologies which utilise solar dyes to make solar windows, paints, etc), no transmition losses, no community opposition to development, incremental capital outlay, diversified exposure to weather conditions, no black outs and absolute energy security. Absolutely the cost is higher but it’s worth it.

Regardless of whether China is a developing nation or not, they have pulled ahead of US on Wind Power Generation, Solar Photovoltaic, and if we don’t start building Nuclear Reactors they will pull ahead of US on that too.

These charts show how windpower contributes to energy contribution around the world by regions. It is interesting to note that while America leads the world in wind energy production, we still have a long way to go in reducing our dependency on non-renewable energy sources.

Finally, country exposure. You will notice that in neither case does the final count come up to 100 – that’s because in both cases only the top ten countries were provided. I’m not sure how much of a difference this makes, seeing as most of the top holdings are global businesses. This breakdown says nothing about the exposure of the underlying businesses to different geographical markets, which is arguably what matters most if you intent to hold the ETF for the medium or long term. Nevertheless, to some, this may be useful info in trying to time an entry point if you have an opinion on where each of these equity markets is headed.

My categories are fairly self-explanatory, save perhaps the distinction between “Park ownership” and “Power gen”. “Park ownership” refers to pure-play wind park and/or renewable power generation asset owners, whereas “Power gen” refers to larger electric utilities with exposure to a wide range of generation fuels.

Investing in securities of small and medium-sized companies may involve greater risk than is customarily associated with investing in large companies.

FAN’s top ten holdings are somewhat more focused on the wind supply chain, whereas PWND has a more exposure to wind park operators. Again, as can be noted, PWND’s positions are appreciably more concentrated than FAN’s, with the top ten holdings making up about 65% of the portfolio Vs. 57% for FAN. Overall, I expect the supply chain to be less impacted by tightness in credit markets than park operators.

Wind Energy Report Summary

Energy transmission is an intra-state as well as an inter-state issue. Given Texas’ abundance of renewable energy resources, it is just as important to consider how to export Texas renewable energy to other states and regions.

The gains that we are seeking require new innovations in fluid dynamics, control, materials, manufacturing, structures, and electric power distribution, as well of new ways of engaging the public in appreciating and accepting this technology, the associated transmission infrastructure and its effects on reducing climate change. Design and analysis tools need to be developed. Common computer codes need to be shared and refined in an open collegial way that cannot occur in industry. Researchers need to disseminate, debate, and share results openly, accelerating innovation in the subject.
